Cairns of Indian Creek Trail

Cairns are human-made stacks of stones traditionally used as trail markers, navigational guides in open terrain, and to mark summits or memorial sites.

In many parks and natural areas, visitors are encouraged to follow “leave no trace” principles, which include not building new cairns. Unofficial stacks can sometimes confuse trail navigation or disturb natural habitats.

That said, if you’ve walked the Indian Creek Trail, you’ve probably noticed there are plenty of these little stone stacks along the way. Whether they’re meant as markers, moments of creativity, or simply a bit of neighborhood personality — they’ve become part of the character of the trail.
