He also served with Andrew Jackson during the War of 1812. His cooperation reflected the Chickasaw strategy of aligning with American forces in hopes of preserving tribal autonomy and land. In recognition of his service and character, he was reportedly honored with a medal from George Washington.

Despite loyalty and military service, Tishomingo could not shield his people from federal removal policies. In the late 1830s, during the forced migration known as the Trail of Tears, the Chickasaw were compelled to leave their ancestral Mississippi homelands. Tishomingo died around 1838–1841 near Little Rock, Arkansas, while traveling west with his people — a solemn end during one of the darkest chapters in Native American history.

Today, his name endures in Tishomingo, the historic capital of the Chickasaw Nation located in Oklahoma.
